About Our Driftwood Timber Furniture

Driftwood Timber is genuine reclaimed rustic timber, sourced and recycled from sustainable sources.

Sometimes known as old wood, it is a minimum of 10 years old and has been reclaimed from various buildings and factories, typically prior to re-development or demolition.

The wood itself is unique with no two pieces ever being the same.

Typical characteristics that can be expected are a planked appeareance, nail holes, splits, saw marks, an aged patina and uneven surfaces.

With thick 40mm and 70mm tops available on any piece of Driftwood Timber furniture, the 15cm plank widths create a flow along the wood that is eye catching and never fails to attract admiring comments.

Beeswax is simply applied to the surfaces to seal and protect the wood and brings out the deep tones and colour variations in the wood itself to beautiful effect.

ALL furniture can be made in Driftwood Timber from Beds to Larder Units, Sideboards to Chests of Drawers, Lamp Tables to Dining Tables, Blanket Boxes to TV Units, Dressers to Dressing Tables, Bookcases to Desks…the choice is endless

Choosing your Study Furniture couldn’t be easier!

  • DESKS: Consider how you wish to use your desk – do you have a laptop that requires a slide out shelf? A tower that needs concealing? Files that need to be stored? Measure your equipment and then measure the space you have available. Consider your combinations of shelving, drawers and cupboards. We can make desk mounted shelving that sits on top of your shelf also to utilise all that handy space.

  • MEETING ROOM TABLES: Firstly choose the size of table you want and the style of legs you would like; turned, shaker, tapered or chamfered. Do you need a table that extends? A hard wearing Oak table top, a round, square or rectangular table? If you need to tuck in executive leather swivel chairs, measure the height from the floor to the arm rest to ensure they will tuck under the table top skirt.

  • BOOKCASES: Choose the size that you require and the type of bookcase fixing you would like from fixed, brass bookcase strip adjustable fixings, wooden ladder racking fixings or pegs. Then select the number of shelves you would like, whether you would like drawers or cupboards combined with your bookcase and if you have a special depth that you require remember to make a note and bring it with you.

  • FILING CABINETS AND STORAGE BOXES: Choose the size of your storage solution and consider whether you would like standard or soft closing drawers. Some files vary in size so if you have a particular brand of folder you prefer, why not bring it with you and we can accommodate your system.

  1. Measure your ideal size and tell us your dimensions. We may have just the thing in stock but if not, we’ll make it!
  2. Choose your style; Shaker, Edwardian, Victorian, Oslo, Chepstow etc.. or a combination of the them
  3. Choose the wood you would like; Pine, Rustic Plank, Reclaimed Timber, Driftwood, Oak.
  4. Choose the thickness of the top; 25mm, 40mm or 70mm* (*where available)
  5. Select the finish you would like; waxed, oiled, Farrow and Ball Painted colour, vintage or a combination of these.

Top Tips For Buying Bedroom Furniture

Top Tips for Bedroom Furniture buying…Before you start shopping!

  • Look at your space before you start shopping ; our showroom is large and the setting can be deceptive so before you visit, look at the space you have measure an ideal size that you would like; consider doors, sloping ceilings, alcoves, windows, walkways and other pieces of furniture that the room may require or have…and then jump in the car armed with your information! Don’t worry if you forget your tape measure, we have plenty on hand for you to borrow!

  • “I need to get it up my stairs and I don’t want Flat Pack”. You’ve come to the right place! All our furniture is hand made and wardrobes are cleverly designed to break down into components for easy handling and assembling. However they are NOT flat packed – doors are hung, knobs are attached, they are hand made to be dismantled if required. Our “fitted free-standing” ranges are designed to be made in sections so that smaller pieces can be placed in situ and then joined thus retaining the integrity of the craftsmanship, dovetailed joints, solid hand made drawers, tongue and grooved backs etc.. Using this system, whole walls can be filled with chests of drawers, cupboards and storage solutions without compromising on quality – We don’t make flat packed furniture, we make furniture that lasts and fits!
    • Do you need a combination wardrobe door to clear the foot end of a bed? Ideally like deeper drawers for your jumpers? Need to have clearance under the bed for the dog basket? Not a problem, simply take a note of the measurements and we’ll make it so that it works for you.

    • Wood Finish; whilst a scratch on a lacquered finish often requires expensive refurbishment by professionals (or the use of well positioned plants or table cloths to conceal!) painted, waxed and oiled finishes not only accentuate the natural beauty of the wood itself but should an accident occur, they can be re-worked at less expense, more often than not by yourself, making them the favourite of craftsmen and customers alike.

    • As the old saying goes; “You get what you pay for” and this is so true with all furniture. As a general rule; the harder the wood the more durable it is and understandably the more expensive it is as generally hard woods take longer to grow. That’s’ not to say soft woods don’t have their place and are still a top favourite

    • Consider your budget and lifestyle and go for the wood and finish that best suits your needs.

Top Tips For Buying Dining Furniture

Top Tips for Dining Furniture buying…Before you start shopping!

Don’t worry if you forget your tape measure, we have plenty on hand for you to borrow!

Tables; How many people would you like to seat? Think about how many people might use your table on a day to day basis. If you would like it to accommodate guests, consider an extending table and the minimum and maximum sizes (or people) that might need to be seated.

Chairs? Benches? Settles? Your choice of seating can have a profound affect in setting the tone for your dining experience but don’t be lulled into forgetting the practicalities also!

When thinking about your choice of dining table, always remember to allow extra room for the back of the chairs; for example traditional farmhouse chairs typically add approximately 30cm-40cm to the width of the total space so if placed on both sides of the table you will need to allow 60-80cm more to move around the table. More upright chairs such as Ladderbacks and leather dining chairs with save space and for complete flexibility consider benches and settles which we can make to fit exactly between the legs of tables for a superb storage and seating solution in one!

Watch out for cheap tables! These typically place legs in awkward places which makes tucking in chairs difficult and dining at times could be uncomfortable. Whilst ALL OUR TABLES HAVE DETACHABLE LEGS, you my find that tables of lesser quality have fixed legs which can make getting them in your home and into the right room difficult for you.

Wood Finish; whilst a scratch on a lacquered finish often requires expensive refurbishment by professionals (or the use of well positioned plants or table cloths to conceal!) painted, waxed and oiled finishes not only accentuate the natural beauty of the wood itself but should an accident occur, they can be re-worked at less expense, more often than not by yourself, making them the favourite of craftsmen and customers alike.

As a general rule; the harder the wood the more durable it is and understandably the more expensive it is as generally hard woods take longer to grow. That’s’ not to say soft woods don’t have their place and for farmhouse tables you can’t get better than a beautifully scrubbed down table.

Consider your budget and lifestyle and go for the wood and finish that best suits your needs.

  • When choosing bookcases consider the depth of the books you wish to accommodate –all measurements are take into account overall widths and depths to include plinths and top overhangs but we can make shelves the exact size of those awkward encyclopaedias or box files so there’s no need to put up with them protruding any longer! The same applies to sideboards and dressers if you have a particular dinner plate or serving dish size you wish to accommodate. Measuring now will save you not only time and effort but potentially money too!

  • When measuring up for TV and multi media stands, measure your equipment before you shop – don’t forget to think about the height of the unit you would like as sofa’s and chairs vary and room proportions may mean that you prefer a lower unit for covering longer distances or higher unit for shorter distances.

  • When thinking about desks consider your surface wood choice wisely. Softwoods such as pine will mark easier than harder woods such as oak. A little more spent now will ensure a tougher resistance to those pens, books and calculators. Using a combination of woods such as a painted main carcass with solid oak top can help keep costs down whilst creating a working space which doesn’t dominate a room but rather, compliments it.
